Smokers Prison.......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek.........12.01.06............ Smoking. Not just bad for your health, but its against the law. Kansas City is joining Overland Park in a smoking ban that affects bars and restauraunts. Coming soon: Smokers Prison. This will be a new wing at Leavenworth.

Sex Offender Pit Bull Registry in Overland Park .......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek....8.09.06........... A new ordinance banning Pit Bulls in Overland Park went into effect Thursday, July 27. Those who failed to register their pit bull dog by that date face a fine, ranging from $200 to $1,000, and/or 30 days in jail. Registered pit bull dogs living in the city will not be affected by the ban, which was passed by the City Council Monday. However, any puppies born to registered pit bulls must be removed from the city within six weeks.

Shawnee Mission North High School: Holier Than Thou? .......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek......1.12.06..... A student, Courtney Falke, at Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland park, was sent home today because of violation of dress code. What violation? Excessive holes? Now I have seen some of the clothes kids wear today and "holes" are actually in. I believe you can even buy jeans with holes already in them. And you would think there would be a reduction on the cost for using less material, but no that is not the case. Some even cost more. It's kind of like paying more for a good donut, even though there's a big hole in the middle. Holes are a fashion statement. I am not sure what the statement is...but it is being said all over. When I was in school, bell bottoms were a fashion statement. It meant "cool...groovy..or far out." I was not any of those, but I did make the statement. Reports says the school dress code states students cannot wear clothing with excessive holes. My question is: what is excessive? Does an administrator count the holes before reprimanding?

I have seen boys walking with their baggy pants almost below their jockey shorts because I guess having pants that fall down is a fashion statement, also. Once again, I don't know what the statement is, but it is being stated all over also. A school administrator said "If clothing is too revealing, an administrator could consider that a disruption." Too many holes is a disruption and boys walking around with underwear hanging out isn't? I think she should wear the same jeans, add a few more holes, put on a pair of jockey shorts, and return to school tomorrow.

The Farmlands of Overland Park .......[c]2005 by Richard L Zorek......12.07.05..... Though most probably don't think this way, there are some Johnson County residents who think they are all that and then some. Hopefully their delusions never carry outside of their Overland Park or Olathe compounds. Some people are born with silver spoons in their mouths and some work to get it there. I say, of both, that they look silly with those spoons hanging of their mouths. I have lived in Johnson County now for several months and I know that when I use the restroom, it still smells (putting that politely:-).

What inspired this poetic rambling, you may ask? Well, one family in Overland Park acquired three chicks...which have now grown into three chickens. How do the elite of Johnson County handle such a thing?

"I don't want my hometown to be considered out in the sticks," said one neighbor. What does this person know about the sticks? Is she stereotyping people who live in the sticks as being something negative. But, most importantly, where the heck is "the sticks?" It's not even a place. It's a bunch of twigs.

"If we let these people have chickens, then next year we'll have cows, pigs and horses," said another neighbor. She must not know her neighbors very well, or misjudges them, because it is not likely on anyones mind to go buy a horse, cow or pig. So I don't know why this statement would be true. Unless chickens produce cows, pigs or horses. I have not seen an egg hatched, but I presumed that none of these come in them. I have nothing against cows, pigs, horses, chickens or sticks. I will not make a good Overland Park resident.

...one of them cuts you up psychologically and the other just cuts you up...

Shawnee Mission North's Cut Ups .......[c]2005 by Richard L Zorek.....11.02.05.......Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park has a couple celebrity graduates. Dr Phil graduated from there. And so did the director and co-writer of the thriller movie "Saw II," Darren Lynn Bousman. Now there shows the wide diversity of that institution. One of them cuts you up psychologically, and the other just cuts you up. This weekend, just in time for Halloween, the movie debuted in the number one spot nationally. Dr Phil (McGraw) is older than Bousman, so it is not likely they met in the halls at anytime. It's possible that some of Dr. Phil's analysis could have helped Bousman, or maybe it drove him to it. Bousman, of course, didn't really cut anyone up. He just wrote about it. Today if one walks the halls of Shawnee Mission North and writes those kinds of things, though, they would probably be expelled and considered a threat to society. And they would miss out on those wonderful school lunches. But, congratulations to both, I am sure they are eating well wherever they are.
